STS Scholarship 2024: Interested candidates from MBBS and BDS can participate in the Short Term Scholarship Program (STS) which is accepted by Prof. Balram Bhargav, Director General- Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), and Secretary- Department of Health Research. The main purpose of the program is to make a relation or interact with the undergraduate students from medical background to their seniors with the research methodology and techniques. STS Scholarship application have to be filled in online mode only.
Here is a quick update about the STS Scholarship 2024 For MBBS/BDS.
The students who have done their final online submission must submit the revised documents via email on 28th February 2024.
For the year 2024, 1500 students (1200 seats- MBBS and 300 seats- BDS) will be awarded to the students after the submission and review. The results will be announced by end of March 2024 or the first week of April 2024 and the list of final students will be out on the official website.

STS Scholarship Eligibility Criteria:
This STC Scholarship is only for students who have completed their graduation in MBBS and BDS.
Other eligibility criteria are as mentioned below:-
- Only the applicants of MBBS and BDS of Medical/ Dental Colleges which are recognized by the MCI/ DCI are eligible for the scholarship to apply but they have to apply before their final exams.
- Students who are not eligible for this post are Internship/ PG candidates.
- All the applicants who have OCI cards/ PIO cards/ NRIs who are studying in an Indian Medical/ Dental college are also eligible for this scholarship, they just have to submit their OCI/ PIO/ NRI card along with the application form.
- Paramedical/ Non-Medical candidates are not eligible for this scholarship.
- Indian students who are studying from a recognized Medical/ Dental College can also apply.
- Applicants who are studying from Abroad or from Foreign Dental/ Medical colleges are not eligible for it.
Note:
- Candidates who have applied for the scholarship must do their research work from their respective colleges under a guide. That guide must be employed as a full-time faculty in that same college. Any Part-time faculty or PG students or Visiting faculty will not be accepted as a guide for the students.
- On one topic, two or more students cannot do research, everyone should submit their research work on different topics.
- The guide acts as a mentor to all the students
- Every student or group of students is allotted a guide who guides them in the completion of the research guide.
- The reports of the students who submit their reports together on the same topic will be rejected and not considered for evaluation.
STS Scholarship Rewards and Benefits:
The main aim of STS program is to make the Medical/ Dental students introduce the different aspects of Research Work.
The other benefits and rewards are as follows:-
- Almost 1500 students can apply for this scholarship (1200 for MBBS and 300 for BDS)
- An amount of Rs. 10,000 is paid to the students for two months, that is, Rs. 20,000.
- This studentship amount is given to them as a stipend for a research worker.
- This payment is paid to the students only after completion of the research and approval of the final report.
- The expenses of research have to be carried out by the college/ institute where the research is done.
- A certificate will also be given to the students which will be posted to the Principal’s office/ College within 6/8 months of the report result.
- If a student’s STS report is approved then only the candidate will be awarded by the stipend and the certificate.
STS Scholarship Application Process:
This scholarship process is done completely online. All the steps are given below:-
Step 1: Registration Process:-
- On the ICMR official website, all the candidates have to register their name with a valid email id, phone number, course details like student’s name, their address, their college name, their course name, personal details like date of birth and residential address.
- Candidates have to register by January, 2024.
- One student can register themselves only once. Multiple registration of one single candidate can cancel their registration.
- For further more communication, candidates should mention their correct address of the college along with the phone number and email ID in the application form.
- Candidates are advised to post successful registration where they will get a registration ID and password.
- The email ID and reference is required later on.
Step 2: Application Form Submission:-
- Both Application form and Research Proposal should be submitted online on the official website of ICMR.
- The application should be completely filled with the attested Application Attestation Form (AAF) should be submitted.
- The Application Attestation Form (AAF) should be completely filled, signed, attested, scanned and saved as a PDF document file.
- One candidate can submit only one application form. Multiple number of application forms of one candidate should be rejected.

STS Scholarship Selection Process:
- The results of the selected candidates will be published in April, 2024. Selected candidates who will be given the STS Scholarship Research work will be published in the official website of STS.
- Then the selected candidates are needed to prepare the project work for any 2 months between April to September, 2024 and then should submit the research project with the deadline given, between 16th October, 2024.
- If the report is approved, then only the students will get a stipend and the certificate.
- The decision of awarding the students as Research Studentship will be on the hands of the technical evaluation of the research plan by the expert committee.
- The decision of ICMR will be taken as a final decision.
- If a student comes and appeals for the consideration of application will not be entertained.
- The reason behind not selecting a candidate for Research Studentship will not be shown or provided to the candidates.
- The focus area of STS Scholarship 2024 is Medical Research, Life Science and Biotechnology. The students studying in the above-mentioned areas must hurry up and fill out the STS scholarship form immediately.
Steps to check result of STS scholarship
If students want to check their result for STS scholarship then they need to follow the below mentioned steps:
Visit the official website of the STS scholarship.
On the home page, you will see a result option.
A pdf file consisting of the names of the selected students will be displayed.
Download the pdf file and search for your name in it.
Amount:
The amount of scholarship is paid in two months i.e., INR 10000 per month ( which means INR 20000 in total). The amount is paid to you after the completion of the Research of the final report and its approval. Institutions/ Medical/Dental Colleges have to pay the cost of the research because research is created in that institution.
After six to eight months of the report, a certificate will be issued and sent to the principal office. The students whose report gets selected by the authorities are eligible for the certificate and a certificate will be issued for those students only. A Xerox and scanned copy of the same is kept by the guide.
STS Scholarship Important Points:
- The guide must take all the responsibilities of the Research Studentship which includes the research project, preparation, and submission of the report with all necessary details and required documents within the given period of time.
- The candidates should take the necessary permission from the Institutional Ethics Committee (IEC) if the research work includes human participants.
- The candidates should take the necessary permission from the Institutional Animal Ethics Committee (IAEC) if the projects include the use of animals.
- The Institutional Animal Ethics Committee (IAEC)/ Institutional Ethics Committee (IEC) permissions should be taken before starting the project work.
- As soon as the candidates get selected for Research Studentship their stipend will be transferred to the RTGS and the students’ single holder bank account.
- It is advised that the candidates must have a separate bank account only. If the candidate has a joint account with another individual like parents, or guardian, then it will not be considered.
- Candidates will receive the stipend after 3 months from the declaration of results.
- It is mandatory that aspirants must have provide Income Certificate of Parents or Guardians. Without it you cannot avail the benefits of Scholarship.
- Before filling the application form please read all the information carefully.
- Scholarships are available only for regular courses.
- Make sure that the Caste Certificate is duly signed by tehsildar.
- The income Certificate of Parents or Guardians is very essential. The financial need is taken into consideration while giving the scholarship to the students.
- Make sure that you provide Bank account details correctly as it is also mandatory.
- If you are not able to complete the STS project, then you can reapply and it will be considered a fresh application.
- The proposal submitted by the candidates must be original and free from plagiarism.
- The candidates must submit the STS applications before the last date to avoid any last-minute rush.
