The admission process for ITI trades/courses differs from state to state. Some states provide ranks to the candidates according to their percentage/ grades which they have scored in their respective classes and some states conduct entrance exams for the admissions. These are some general methods used for the selection of the candidates:
- Mostly, the selection is done on the basis of merit. Candidates are allocated with the ranks according to their marks scored and then the institute releases a cutoff and students are allocated with their courses and colleges as well.
- Some institutes conduct entrance based admissions in which students who score higher marks are given preference.
- Some states even conduct a round of personal interviews

ITI Courses Exam and Certification
- After completing, one must have to go through the All India Trade Test (AITT) organized by National Council for Vocational Training.(NCVT)
