Vidyasagar University was established by an Act of the West Bengal legislature which was notified in the Calcutta Gazette on 24 June 1981. It is an affiliating university in Paschim Medinipur district of southern West Bengal, India.

The university also accepts scores of some national level entrance examinations such as CAT, MAT, JET, SET, JECA to offers admission to MBA, MCA and PhD programmes. The university has a directorate of distance education for conducting post graduates studies in distance mode. This is for the students who cannot complete post graduate courses in regular mode.

The procedure for admission to Vidyasagar University is simple. The candidates can secure admission to the university for UG courses based on their 12th-grade percentage. For PG courses, the candidates must qualify the required entrance examination.

Computer Centre established by the Vidyasagar University takes an important role in spreading computer knowledge in rural areas of West Bengal. At PG level, the institute offers courses like MBA, MCA and M.Ed. For taking Admission in MBA, students must have passed Graduation with minimum 45% marks. The selection of the students will be done according to the rank obtained in CAT or MAT or CET. For MCA, students must have Bachelor’s degree with a minimum 50% marks. Selection will be done on the basis of score obtained in JECA entrance test. For taking Admission in M.Ed, students must have a B.Ed degree with minimum 45% marks. Selection will be done on the merit basis.

Vidyasagar University MA, M.Com, M.Sc, and M.L.I.Sc Admission 2026

At PG level, the institute also provides MA, M.Com, M.Sc, and M.Ĺ.I.Sc courses. These courses are available in various specializations and all are full time courses. For taking Admission in M.Sc, students must have passed B.Sc with minimum 55% marks from any recognized University. For taking Admission in B.Com, aspirants must have passed Graduation with minimum 45% marks from any recognized University. For MA, students must have passed Graduation from any recognized University. For taking Admission in M.L.I.Sc, students must have passed B.L.I.Sc from any recognized University. Selection will be done on the basis of merit in the qualifying exam.

Vidyasagar University M.Phil Admission 2026-27

The institute also provides full time M.Phil course to the students. The course is available in various specializations. The basic minimum eligibility criteria for this course is that students must Master’s degree with minimum of 55% marks. The selection of the students will be done on the basis of the entrance test and then candidates will have to appear for an interview. The candidates who crack the interview are given admission to the desired course.

Vidyasagar University Ph.D. Admission 2026-27

The institute offers a number of specializations in Ph.D. course. This course is a full-time course and available in many specializations like Botany, Chemistry, Zoology etc. For taking admission in this course, students must have a Master’s degree with a minimum 55% marks. Application Fees

Candidates are required to pay the application fee to confirm their registration. The application form fee for the Phd program is Rs 500 and for diploma program is Rs 200. After the candidates get selected by the university, they need to pay the semester fees.

Following are the documents that the provisionally admitted candidates had to brought with them at the time of physical verification:

• 1. Print out of filled application form
• 2. Self attested photo copies of all the Mark Sheets of Examinations passed (class 10th onwards)
• 3. Self attested photo copy of the admit card or certificate of H.S. or equivalent as proof of the date of birth
• 4. Self attested photo copy of SC/ST/OBC/differently abled certificate issued by the appropriate authority. (for those who are applying under respective quota)
• 5. Self attested photo copies of the certificate of games and sports/ cultural competition (international/national/state in the last two years), for those who are applying under respective quota.
• 6. Migration certificate (for other university candidates only) must be submitted within two months from the date of admission

• Candidates who are from SC/ST/OBC and PwD must upload the copies of relevant documents along with the application form.
