NLSIU Admission 2026-26: The National Law School of India University (NLSIU) is a highly esteemed institution that provides undergraduate, postgraduate, and research courses in legal education. NLSIU is a public law school and the first Law University of India. It was established in 1987. NLSIU has been ranked 1 by NIRF 2026, under law category. BA-LLB (Hons.)
Duration: 3 years
Eligibility Criteria: 10+2 with a minimum of 50% of aggregated marks with a valid CLAT score-card.
L.L.M. (Master of Law)
Duration: 1 year
Eligibility Criteria: LLB or equivalent UG degree with a minimum of 55% of aggregated marks is required.
Specialization: Business Laws, Human Rights Laws.
Master of Public Policy
Duration: 2 years
Eligibility Criteria: Graduate in any discipline with a minimum of 55% of aggregated marks followed by Policy Aptitude Test and Personal Interview.
Research Degrees
M.Phil. (Master of Philosophy)
Duration: 1 year or maximum 2 years
Eligibility Criteria: LLM degree with an aggregate of 55% marks or B+ grade is required.
Admission Procedure: A research proposal of 10 to 15 pages submitted during Admission procedure which is followed by Admission Test UGC NET/ JRF and Oral Presentation before the expert panel.
Ph.D. (Doctor of Philosophy)
Ph.D. Degree in Law
Duration: 5-6years
Eligibility Criteria: Should have a LLM Degree (Regular) from a recognized University with an aggregate of 55% or secure B+ grade.
Admission Test: There shall be a written test which consists of two papers.

Ph.D. Degree in Public Policy
Duration: 5-6 years
Eligibility Criteria: Should have Master’s Degree in Public Policy from a recognized University with an aggregate of 55% or secure B+ grade.
Ph.D. in Inter-disciplinary
Duration: 5-6 years
Eligibility Criteria:
1. Master’s Degree or equivalent in any discipline (Regular) from a recognized University with an aggregate of 55% and Bachelor’s Degree in Law (Regular) from a recognized University.
2. A candidate must pass the Company Secretary Examination conducted by the ICS and has been awarded Associate membership of the Institute.
3. A candidate must pass the Chartered Accountants Examination conducted by the Institute of Chartered Accountants.
4. Candidates who are from SC/ST category will have the relaxation in marks.
5. Candidates who have a degree in Master of Business Law with minimum 4.0 CGPA can also apply to Ph.D. program.
The Candidates who have qualified for UGC, NET/JRF, SLET and M.Phil. are exempted from taking the admission test.
Admission Procedure: A research proposal of 10 to 15 pages submitted during Admission procedure which followed by Admission Test on par with UGC NET/JRF and Oral Presentation before the expert panel.

- Title of the topic
- Background information of that subject in which candidate is applying
- Set of research questions
- Research design
