MAEF Scholarship 2024 – The ‘Begum Hazrat Mahal National Scholarship’ was awarded by the Maulana Azad Education Foundation which is previously known as the Maulana Azad Scholarship. This scholarship is given to the students whose merit is good in the academic field which is only for the girls who are from the minority communities such as Sikhs, Muslims, Jains, Christians, Parsis, and Buddhists. The Maulana Azad Education Foundation was created under the Government of India by the Ministry of Minority Affairs concept is from the birth centenary celebrations of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad.

The Maulana Azad National Fellowship (MANF) comes from the University Grants Commission (UGC) which is for the students who are belonging from the minority community such as Sikhs, Muslims, Jain’s, Christians, Parsis, and Buddhists. MAEF Scholarship is provided to students studying in MPhil and Ph.D. courses. The aim is to provide them with financial support.
Steps to apply for MAEF Scholarship 2024
Interested students must visit the website- https://www.maef.nic.in/scholarship-scheme
Click on the “Apply Online”.
The students have to then select whether they are applying for the first time or what to renew the application.
Select the option respectively.
Fill in the application form.

MAEF Scholarship Eligibility Criteria:
The Maulana Azad Education Foundation (MAEF) Scholarship is given and is only for the students who are coming from the minority community such as Sikhs, Jains, Muslims, Christians, Parsis, and Buddhists. The other criteria which is needed for the students to apply for the scholarship is given below:-
Begum Hazrat Mahal National Scholarship –
- The applicant should be a girl who must be from the minority community.
- The candidate should be from class 9 – class 12.
- The candidate should acquire atleast 50% marks in the last qualifying examination.
- The candidate’s annual income of the should be under INR 2,00,000 and it should not exceed that.
Maulana Azad National Fellowship –
- The candidate should be a girl and they must come from the minority community.
- The candidate should have cleared the following examinations such as: CBSE-NET/ CSIR-NET/ UGC-NET/ NTC, except these exams they are not eligible for this scholarship.
- The candidate should have registered their name in full-time MPhil/ PhD course from any recognized University/ Institute in India.
- Transgender applicants can also apply.
- The candidates must have completed their post graduate degree from any recognized Board/ University/ College with atleast 55% marks.
- The candidate’s annual family income should be under INR 6,00,000.
MAEF Scholarship Rewards and Benefits:
The MAEF Scholarship helps the students to clear the admission fees, course fees and maintenance fees. The amount gets directly transferred to the students bank account through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT). Other benefits offered by the MAEF Scholarship are mentioned below:-
Begum Hazrat Mahal National Scholarship –
- Not all but only the students of class 9 and class 10 gets a scholarship of Rs. 5000 per annum.
- Not all but only the students of class 11 and class 12 gets a scholarship of Rs. 6000 per annum.
Maulana Azad National Fellowship –
- Amount of Rs. 25,000 per month is given to the candidates who are studying Junior Research Fellowship for 2 years and Rs. 28,000 per month is given to the candidates who are studying Senior Research Fellowship for the rest of the year.
- Candidates who are pursuing Humanities, Social Sciences, and Commerce degree gets a contingency amount of Rs. 10,000 per annum for the initial 2 years and Rs. 20,500 per annum for rest of the 3 years.
- Candidates who are pursuing Science gets a contingency amount of Rs. 12,000 per annum for the initial 2 years and Rs. 25,000 per annum for rest of the 3 years.
- The physical and visually challenged candidates also get an Escorts/ Readers Assistance of Rs. 2000 per month.

- At first candidates have to register themselves on the official website of Maulana Azad Education Foundation online portal website.
- The candidates have to register themselves by clicking on the ‘Student Registration’ tab which is given on the homepage.

MAEF Scholarship Selection Process:

- The selection process is based on the annual income of the candidate’s family.
- The candidates are also selected on the basis of their academic performance.
- There is a fixed number of scholarships for each State/ Union Territory which is actually based on the minority population of the particular State/ Union Territory.
- The students who have their least annual family income will be preferred more than any other students.
Maulana Azad National Fellowship Selection Process:
The UGC follows some procedures to choose the candidates for the Maulana Azad National Fellowship. The selection criteria is given below:-
- The application form of every candidate is sent to the UGC for verification.
- The application forms which match the eligibility criteria are selected.
- The expert committee makes a final list of selected students.
- The list is then uploaded on the UGC official website. However, the final decision is in the hands of the elected committee.
- On the 1st of April in the particular year, the selected candidates have to join the fellowship program.
Some important points:
- The application procedure is fully online so please do not send hard copy or by post to MAEF
- Upload all the required documents in the JPG format with correct dimensions. Read information carefully and you can upload all the documents.
- Only one Application form can be submitted by an aspirant, if more than one form is submitted then it will be rejected.
- The university does not accept offline application forms.
- The candidates must read the information brochure related to the admission to understand the admission-related procedures.
- MAEF Scholarship 2024 is not applicable for abroad studies. The candidates have to study in India for receiving the scholarship. There are no charges for filling out the application online.
- If there is any gap in the academic year in the studies of the student due to any reason, then the awarded scholarship may be cancelled and discontinued.
- If the student misses the deadline, then no claim for fresh or renewal of the scholarship form will be considered.
