Gangadhar Meher University was known as Sambalpur College in 1944, after the name of the illustrious Oriya poet, the institution’s name was changed to Gangadhar Meher College in 1949. It was upgraded to a university in 2015 and was renamed Gangadhar Meher University. Gangadhar Meher University offers different types of programmes i.e. Under Graduate (UG) Programmes, Post Graduate (PG) Programmes, M.Phil Programmes, Ph.D. Programmes and other programmes. There are various departments that deals in major areas such as Literature and Languages, Social Sciences, Physical Sciences, Life Sciences etc. The University also provides integrated course for B.Ed., B.Sc. and B.A. in self financing mode. These integrated course run with approval from the Government of Odisha.

There are various facilities offered to students by the University. Facilities such as Library facility, Hostel facility, Sports and Games facility, Banking Facilities etc. The University follows Anti ragging policy and also privides placemet facility to students. The Placement cell provides employment opportunities and organizes pre-placement talks, written tests, group discussion, interviews etc. The autonomy of this institution was expanded by the UGC on the basis of its academic credibility and its standard of institutional management and sensitive administrative structure. In addition, the institution was described by the UGC in the 2004-05 session as a ‘College with Potential for Excellence (CPE)’.
The University charges application fees ie. Rs 200 (for those students who are willing to take admission in post graduate programmes) and Rs 300 (for those students who are willing to take admission in under graduate pgrammes) at the time of registration. While making the payment of application fees, students are requested to select UPI or Rupay card as mode of payment to avoid additional charges.
The fees for MBA course at Gangadhar Meher University is Rs. 45000/- (1st year fees). The duration of this course will be 2 years. Candidates must have passed bachelor degree from any recognised university.
The fees for B.Sc. course is Rs. 30000/-(1st year fees). The duration of this course will be 3 years.
