Forest Research Institute (FRI) is an accredited UGC university, located in Dehradun. It was established in the year 1878. Forest Research Institute offers M.Sc. and PhD courses in different specializations. It was the first institute in India to research on the forest. So, the objective of the institute is to provide quality education in various branches of forestry and environment.

FRI Dehradun Eligibility criteria:

For M.Sc. programs- 

• Candidates who wish to take admission for the M.Sc. programs have had to complete a bachelor degree in the same specialisation for which they have applied for M.Sc. 
• Candidates should have secured 50% marks in entrance exam and also should have s 55% marks in the bachelor program.
• However, the selection of the applicant depends on the entrance exam and the interview round.

For PhD courses-

• Aspirants applying for PhD should have completed the master’s program in the same specialisation with 50% marks. 
• Also, the selection of the candidate depends on the written test and interview round.
• GATE/CSIR NET/ UGC NET qualifier need not to appear for an entrance exam but have to appear for an interview round. 

Note- The general category candidates have to obtain 50% marks while SC/ST/PWD/OBC-NCL category candidates have to obtain 45% marks in the entrance exam to eligible for interview round.

FRI Dehradun Application Process 

Application form is available at the official website of the institute. It can be filled either online or offline. The form can also be availed from Registrar, Forest Research Institute Deemed to be University, Dehradun on payment of INR 1200 through cash. 

To apply online, aspirants must have follow various steps-

1. Firstly, visit the official website of the universtiy.
2. Then, tap on the link Application form 2022.
3. Fill the required details.
4. Upload the documents.
5. Upload your photo and signature. 
6. Do the payment.
7. Submit the form.
8. Download the form.

Pay the application fee of INR 1500.

Reservation criteria:

The institute offers reservation as per rules prescribed by the Government. 

• There is 15% reservation for scheduled castes.
•  7.5 % for schedule tribes
• 27% for other backward caste and also 3% reservation for PWD candidates
• There is also 15% reservation for Foreign nationals.  

FRI Dehradun Entrance Exam

The duration of the entrance exam will be 3 hours. Moreover, it will be objective type with four sections. There will be 200 questions to attempt and will be penalty of ¼ marks for every wrong answer. So, the candidate’s accuracy matters a lot in the exam. In short, we advice candidate to leave the question for which they are not sure. The FRI exam would be conducted in various centres across the country. However, the exam has been postponed due to Covid-19.

FRI Dehradun conducts its own Entrance test to offer admission in M.Sc. course. Final admission is granted on the basis of institute based counselling.

Ph.D. admission is based on candidates performance in written test conducted by FRI followed by an interview round.

Eligibility for the written test:

1. Candidate that will be called for the written test must have a minimum qualification prescribed for the purpose for the various courses.
2. There will be a written test for admission to M.Sc. Courses and Post Master Diploma Course on the following subjects: i) Basis Sciences including Social Science ii) Arithmetic and Quantitative Abilities, Computational Ability, Quantitative Reasoning, Interpretation of graphs etc.
3. General Knowledge and Current Affairs
4. English Language, Comprehension, Vocabulary etc.
5. Candidates selected for written test based on the academic requirement will be informed on the date, time and venue of the written test through a letter under certificate of posting duly signed by and bearing the official stamp of the FRI.

There are some documents needs to be submitted at the time of counselling, which are:

• Transfer and Migration certificate
• X- and XII-mark sheet
• Certificate of 10th class in the regard of age proof
• Qualifying degree mark sheet
• Admission Test Admit Card
• Caste, PWD Certificate (if applicable)
• Photo Identity Card (Aadhaar Card / Pan Card)

• The date of entrance exam is May 2022. 
• The last date of submission for Ph.D. is May 2022.

important notes for ph.D. program:

• Candidates who have passed the NET/SLET/GATE examination with good marks need not to appear in the entrance test conducted by the university.
• Candidates must have a valid Master’s degree in the relevant field with minimum 55% of marks in aggregate to take admission in Ph.D.
