Central Institute of Higher Tibetan Studies Courses and Fee Structure 2026-27: Central Institute of Higher Tibetan Studies was established in 1967, formed with an objective of educating the Tibetan Diaspora and those students in the northeast in India who share the same language, culture and religion with Tibet. The Central Institute of Higher Tibetan Studies (CIHTS) originally began to act as a constituent arm of the Sanskrit University of Sampurnananda, and eventually emerged as an independent agency under the Department of Culture, Ministry of Education, Government of India, in 1977. The definition of the Institute was mooted in a dialogue between Pt. In order to educate the young Tibetan Diaspora and those from the Himalayan border regions of India who have religion, culture, and language in common with Tibet, Jawaharlal Nehru, the first Prime Minister of India, and His Holiness the Dalai Lama.

It offers the most unique courses that are versatile enough to provide a gateway to a different world of knowledge to the students. These include Purva Madhayam, Shastri, Aacharya, Uttar Madhayam, Sowa Rigpa Uttar Madhyam, Tibeten Traditional Finearts Uttar Madhayam, Bachelor of Fine Arts and Master of Fine Arts, Shastri Jyotish, Aacharya Jyotish , B.Ed. Shiksha Madhayam, M.Phil., Diploma Computer, and many more.
These courses are educated under distinct departments of the university. These include Department of Mool Shastra, Department of Sampradaya Shastra, Department of Ban Sampradaya, Department of Education, Sanskrit, Department of Tibetan Language & Literature, Department of Classical & Modern Languages, Department of Sciences, Department of Tibetan Traditional Wood Craft, Department of Sowa Rigpa, Department of Bhot Jyotish Vidya, etc.
The entrance exam shall consists of two papers for a duration of 3 hours. The first paper is in Tibetan language and second paper is in English or Hindi. The total marks for each paper is 100 marks. The passing marks shall be 35 marks for each paper.
