Class 10th and 12th are most important classes in our school life as we have to appear for boards in both of these classes. Class 10th is also crucial because after 10th we need to decide the stream in which we have to pursue our further studies. People around us mostly have a miss-conception, that those who have family business, only choose commerce as a career option. But in reality anyone who has interest in commerce as general can select commerce as stream, irrespective of them having a family business or not.
Commerce is a vast field, with never ending career options. If you are interested in management or business or accounting, then this is the stream for you. You get many options to explore and select the option that suites you the best.
What is commerce?
Commerce is study in which we learn topics related to finance, business, trading, management, etc. commerce plays a very important role in our life also, by providing goods and services which we need. It is basically a two way process where you get some good or service and pay for it.
Why to select commerce?
There are numerous reasons to select commerce. Here are some of the reasons:-
- The range of diversity that is available in commerce is not available in any of the other streams.
- Commerce as a stream is a gate for students that leads them to various professional courses after completing 12th. For example:- chartered accountancy (CA), company secretary (CS), cost and management accountant (CMA), etc.
- While studying commerce you get to study various new subjects such as accountancy, business studies, economics, etc., which gives you knowledge about most of the things that you are going to practically experience in life.
Subjects in commerce
If you are interested in taking up commerce as a stream after 10th, you need to know about the subjects that you will study. Since, commerce is a new stream for you, which you have never studied ever earlier in your life, this will be a very new experience for you. This can be advantage for you to get hold of the new subjects and overpower other students. Here are the subjects you will study in commerce generally.

You have to study the four compulsory subjects and for the fifth subject you get option to select from the list of optional subjects available in the school you would further continue your studies in.

Accountancy
Accountancy refers to the practice of recording, allocating of financial transaction of a business. It provides you an assessment of management of the business in financial terms and helps you rank your business as compared to the opponents. This subject basically gives you an idea about how business is done in real life, how you maintain the record of all the expenses and incomes occurred during the whole year, and letting you know the profit you have earned at the end of every year. This is very useful subject.
Business studies
Business studies is a vast subject which lets you study about everything in the business world, be it management, marketing, human resource management, etc. This subject gives you knowledge about the history of the business management practices, principles. It is the most under-rated subject, which can always help you score good in the exams.
Economics
Economics is basically study of the economy on both micro and macro level. It gives you knowledge about how things take place in the economy. Be it demand and supply, inflation and deflation, export and import, GDP of the country, etc. This subject is one of the most interesting subject.
Career options available
After class 10th firstly you would have to complete your 11th and 12th class, and then you would get various options to choose. You get plenty of options to choose from irrespective of whether you had maths as an optional subject or not.

Maths is a very important subject, but most students fear maths or are not interested in maths, so they don’t choose maths as an optional subject after 10th in commerce. But this does not narrow down the scope for the students. Here are some of the common options available for everyone irrespective of having maths as option or not.

Some additional options available for the students who have had maths as an optional subject. The options available are:-
