B.Sc cardiology refers to Bachelor of Science in cardiology. It is basically a degree in cardiac care technology. It is a 3 year course, which involves all the test and procedures related to heart such as ECG, Angioplasty, Angiography, Stress test, etc.
Cardiology is basically a branch of medicine which deals with the heart problems as well as some parts of circulatory system. This course revolves around the human heart, which is one of the main organs in a human body.
This course is the most popular course among the aspirants. This course is designed in such a way that it train students to take care of patients who have cardiopulmonary disease with treatment, pre and post surgery care.
The person who does B.Sc cardiology is generally called cardiologist. Don’t confuse cardiologist with cardiac surgeon. A cardiac surgeon is one who has done MBBS than MD. Whereas, cardiologist is the one who does tests and procedures before surgery. Work of a cardiologist is also crucial as the surgery depends on the tests and preparation which are done in advance. Being a cardiologist is a great responsibility.
Duties of a cardiologist varies from assisting specialists during surgery, taking care of patient during the pre and post surgery period, looking after and operating instruments, and also monitoring the heart and pulse rate.
This course is a 3 year course, in which you will be taught various subjects and topics. Also, you will have to do an internship after the completion of this course. For this course you don’t have to appear for any national level or state level entrance test. Depending on the college or institute, you will be asked to appear for an entrance test, if applicable. Generally you don’t need to give any entrance exam for this course, but this may vary from college to college.
Eligibility criteria in India
For taking admission in this course you need to fulfill all the eligibility criteria mentioned as follows:-
- You need to have completed 12th class in science stream from any recognized education board, be it CBSE, ICSE or any state board.
- You need to have studied Physics, Chemistry, Biology (PCB) and English as compulsory subjects in 12th level.
- Minimum aggregate score needed to do this course is 50% (45% for SC/ ST/ OBC) in your class 12th. However, eligibility criteria may differ from college to college.
Eligibility criteria to study abroad
If you want to study abroad, then the eligibility criteria is different from that in India. You need to submit your 12th mark sheet, statement of purpose (SoP), letter of recommendation. You also need to pass IELTS or TOEFL, these exams are English language tests needed to be given before going to study abroad. You also need to submit the other documents as required by the university you will apply for.
