B.Sc Anaesthesia Technology course is for those who want to specialize in a field of surgery and are concerned with the study of management of anaesthesia equipment, anaesthesia drugs, anaesthesia techniques/procedures, determining appropriate anaesthesia dosage, patient monitoring, etc.
This 3-year course includes subjects like Anaesthesia Technology, Fundamentals of Operation Theatre, Fundamentals of Emergency wards and Intensive care units, Medical Technology, Anaesthesia and Operation Theatre Techniques, etc.
This 3-year course includes both practical and theoretical sessions. B.Sc Anaesthesia Technology is a very practical course and prepares students to be able to pick up the right anaesthetic for a patient on the basis of their medical condition.
The fee for entire course fee can run somewhere between Rs.2,50,000 – Rs.5,00,000. The fees in the government colleges are comparatively less than a private college.
Responsibilities of Anaesthetic Technician –
- To help doctors and surgeons with medical operations and surgeries.
- To check and set up the anesthetic machine.
- To support a highly technical operation team.
- To prepare and manage devices to maintain the patient’s airway (e.g. laryngeal masks, endotracheal tube) and to manage resuscitation in events of organ failure or collapse to bring back the patient from an unconscious state.
- To prepare intravenous drugs.
- Prepare intravenous therapy administration equipment.
Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for this course the candidate needs to pass the class 12th final examination with a minimum score of 45% marks from a recognized board (with physics, chemistry, and biology as the core subjects).
