The Bhavan was founded in 1938, about a decade before the dawn of Indian independence by Kulapati Dr. K.M.Munshi, a far sighted visionary and practical idealist, with the blessings of Mahatma Gandhi and co-operation of Sri Rajaji, Dr.Rajendra Prasad, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, Sri Sardar Patel, Dr.Radhakrishnan and several other stalwarts. It is totally a political and is solely devoted to the promotion of education and Indian culture. The Bhavan, at present, has 117 Kendras in India and 7 abroad (London, New York, Mexico, Singapore, Lisbon, Sydney, Durban). It runs 355 educational institutions across the country with over 3,00,000 students.
Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan’s Sri Venkateswara Vidyalaya, Tirupati was inaugurated by Sri C. Subramaniam, former President, on the 2nd June 1990 in the presence of Sri S. Ramakrishnan, then Executive Secretary and Director General of the Bhavan and other eminent personalities of Bhavan and of the temple town.
Started functioning with 125 students from classes Kinder Garten to 3rd in 1990, subsequently, every year one class was added up to Class X. Today, the Vidyalaya has become a full fledged secondary school with a strength of 2000 students.
