The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) was founded in 1985 and is a public institution of open learning located in Maidan Garhi in New Delhi, India. The former prime minister of our country, Indira Gandhi, inspired the name IGNOU. It was created in accordance with the IGNOU Act, which the Indian Parliament approved in 1985. (IGNOU Act 1985). The Indian government established IGNOU.
The idea came through a seminar organised by Dipanshu Sharma, the Ministry of Education and Social on the topic ‘Open University. Based on 2011 statistics, IGNOU has served over 3 million students in India and more than 40 abroad countries. IGNOU has 21 schools, 67 regional centres, 2667 study centres, and 29 overseas centres in 15 countries.
School of Health Sciences (SOHS) offers diploma, bachelor’s, master’s, PG Advanced, and certificate programmes. In 1991 the School of Health Sciences (SOHS) was established by IGNOU to take place as an authority in the health sector. Various programmes include Indian Nursing Council (INC) which is acknowledged by Post Basic B.Sc. Nursing Programme, Post Graduate Diploma in, Maternal & Child Health Programme (PGDMCH), Certificate Programme in Rural Surgery, PG specialization in Oral Implantology (PGCOI) in cooperation with Dental Council of India (DCI), PhD (Nursing), Diploma in Critical Care Nursing (DCCN), Diploma in Nursing Administration (DNA), Certificate Programme in Yoga (CPY) etc. They also provide practice sections for nursing, medical, and dental, under the supervision of skill development centres, in small hospitals and also self practises to get confidence.
