SAARC Consortium on Open and Distance Learning (SACODL) and Global Mega Universities Network (GMUNET) are been hosted by IGNOU and they are initially supported by UNESCO.
A decentralization process has been started by IGNOU, by setting up 5 zones; north, south, east, west and north-east. IGNOU with partnership with other organizations launches different courses. For example it offers BBA in Retail distance learning course in association with Retailers Association of India (RAI). In the recent times, the university has implemented CBCS method for various bachelors’ degree courses like BA, BCOM, BSC, BAVTM, etc. According to this system the exams are conducted semester wise and earlier it use to be conducted on an annual basis.
IGNOU has around 21 schools, 67 regional centers, 1621 study centers and 29 overseas centers (in 15 different countries). Around 20% of the students who are enrolled in higher education in India are enrolled with IGNOU. It offers 226 academic programs at certificate, diploma and degree level.
On 6 October 2008 the research unit was established by IGNOU. This research unit is responsible for conducting Research Council, engage research teaching assistants, conducting workshops or seminars for part-time and full-time research candidates and to facilitate systemic or discipline-based research in the university. IGNOU has been accredited the highest grade “A++” by NAAC.
ADMISSIONS- The admissions are done through both online or offline mode. For online mode, the application forms are released online on the college website. For the offline mode, the interested candidate has to visit the centre and submit the application forms with complete authentic details and documents required at the time of admission. The admission forms must be filled out within the deadline period decided by the college authorities. IGNOU Scholarships
Indira Gandhi National Open University offers scholarships to reserved categories. This facility is only for those who are financially weak or has only one girl child. You can fill the form of application from the website of the university. Students who are from rural areas they get 50% concession subject to the production of a domicile certificate. Students from urban area who are below the poverty line, they are given 50% concession on fee.
