With a purpose to educate thousands, a group of young Gujaratis founded the Gujarati Pustakalaya and Gujarati Vidyalaya. As the number of Gujaratis moving to the rapidly developing cotton city increased, the requirement for a better school became apparent, prompting the realization that teaching in Gujarati would not suffice for knowledge acquisition in Tamil Nadu. As a result, English was adopted as the medium of instruction. In spite of financial challenges, the school was formally inaugurated on October 10th, 19The benevolent contribution from Shri Kishandas Kikani and Sri Gopaldas Kikani led to the school being named “Shri Baldevdas Kikani Vidhya Mandir” in memory of their late brother, and it has retained this name ever since.
