The Government of Tamil Nadu established Periyar University in Salem on 17^th September 1997 as per the provisions of the Periyar University Act, 1997. The University covers the area comprising four districts namely Salem, Namakkal, Dharmapuri, and Krishnagiri.  The university is recognised by UGC and has been accredited by NAAC with an ‘A’ grade in 2021. The University offers both the Offline and Online options to enroll in different courses. Candidates who are willing to pursue UG, PG, Ph.D. and part-Time courses can choose the online admission process through the official website of the Periyar University. It is highly epochal for a student to be a complete post-graduate in the relevant specific fields. And the selection is done on the basis of the grades obtained in the Entrance Exam. Marks obtained in graduation determines the admission into various PG courses offered by the university.

The placements are offered to the students in different industries. The university arranges the Mega Job Fair. •  Various specializations are offered for M.Phil. and Ph.D. courses.
•  Candidates scoring  55% marks in Post graduation are eligible to apply for M.Phil.  program.
• Students holding recognized Master’s Degree or recognized equivalent Master’s Degrees (M.Sc with Microbiology/ Biotechnology/Biochemistry or an allied area) with at least 55% marks or equivalent grades can apply to Ph.D.
•  Seats into the respective courses are provided on the basis of the marks obtained in the Entrance Exam, followed by a personal interview, conducted by the university.

Periyar University Application Procedure for Ph.D:

• Candidates are required to fill the form online through the direct official website of the university. 
• Once the form is filled, get the print-out done and submit the print out copies (duly signed by the respective candidates) along with Demand Draft / Bank Challan, and necessary attachments to the Registrar, Periyar University, Salem 636 011 on or before July 2024. 
• Fee Payment: INR 1000 (INR 500 for SC/ ST/ Differently Abled).

Periyar University Documents Required for filling the Application Form (Ph.D.):

• Class 10th and 12th Marksheet
• Copies of Provisional or Degree, Certificates of UG, PG, and M. Phil.
• Copies of PG Degree.
• Copy of Community Certificate
• Copies  of PG Degree
• Copy of Common Entrance Test Result / SET / NET/ GATE clearance certificates.
• Service Certificate. (for Part-Time Candidates only)

Periyar University PG Admissions 2024

Periyar University offers diverse PG courses to students like M.A, M.Com.,M.Sc, etc. The duration of these courses is two years.  Admission to these courses is made based on the marks obtained in graduation. Passing in the 6th semester is mandatory.  

 Application Process:  

• Aspiring candidates can fill the form online directly via the official website of the university.

• The Application form consists of different sections including educational details, personal details, bank details that are required to be filled properly by the candidate.
• Once the form is filled, the same needs to be submitted with the application fee through Debit card/Credit card/Net Banking.

Entrance Exam

The University conducts entrance exams specifically for master’s courses. This examination will contain MCQs based on theory. The examination is usually conducted in offline mode once in a year. This examination does not include any negative marking. 

Instructions to candidates before Applying in Periyar:

Following are some instructions for the candidates that need to be kept in mind:-

1. Candidates should submit separate application form for each programme.
2. Candidates who have passed their qualifying examinations from other Universities should obtain the eligibility certificate from Periyar University and have to submit that eligibility certificate at the time of admission.
3. Candidates who are applying online must have scanned images of relevant documents, passport size photograph and signature in the JPG format.
4. It is mandatory that all the information provided by a candidate should be correct and authentic because the university will not bear any discrepancy in the application form.
5. Entrance examination will be conducted by the Department of the University and the results will be told to the candidates by the departments concerned to the candidate of that course.
6. 15% of the total seats are allotted for Foreign candidates including NRIs for the admission in all PG program.

• Candidates should read the instructions carefully before applying to any program.
• The mode of applying for application procedure is ONLINE only.
• Refund of fees shall be paid only if a candidate leaves the program before attending the class.
• Admission to PG programs depends on both marks obtained in the last qualifying exam and in the entrance test.

Periyar University offers various types of scholarships to those students who need financial help. Candidates who are selected by the designated authority can apply for the scholarships provided by the university.
