The University was established by the Government of Tamil Nadu as a teaching-cum-affiliating University on 7th September, 1990 to cater to the long-felt needs of the people of the four southern most districts of Tamil Nadu viz., Tirunelveli, Tenkasi, Tuticorin and Kanyakumari. The university is named after the renowned Tamil Poet scholar, Professor P. Sundaram Pillai (1855-1897), the author of the famous verse drama Manonmaniam

• Admissions to the Integrated M.Sc and M.Com courses, admissions are merit-based. MSU Admissions to M.A, M.Sc, M.Com, M.P.Ed, and M.Ed are based on the scores achieved in the University conducted examination. Diploma admission is based on marks obtained in qualifying examination. M.E. and M.Tech admissions are based on valid GATE scores.

If the candidates want to take admission into Manonmaniam Sundarnar University. Forthwith candidates have to face the entrance exam, TANCET, GATE, University Entrance Test, M.Sc integrated entrance test.

• If the candidates want to take admission into the university. Forthwith they have to hold the mark sheet of 10th and 12th for the bachelor’s course.
